“Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born” ~ Anais Nin Practicing Adaptability
Loving it ALL Hola from Cartagena! Sometimes it’s funny what gets lost in translation. Mariana promoted her yoga retreat on Instagram. The gorgeous photos had me hooked, and I wanted in! The timing was great because it would serve as a bookend to my busy season of outdoor teaching. My promise to visit her had extended into its eighth year, so what could be better than joining her on retreat? Going to additional yoga teacher trainings are expensive, so I can’t always gift myself those expansive experiences. But, this would be a yoga immersion, time with a dear friend, and I would finally have the opportunity to see some of her beautiful country. I messaged that I wanted to participate, and that settled it. Then, summer season in Saugatuck took over.. Honestly? We barely spoke before it was time for me to board a plane from Grand Rapids. Realizations:
I have SO much more to share about all that I have experienced here. I can’t wait to tell you a few more stories, show you some more photos, and fill you in on my takeaways from being in Colombia. But, for now . . . I have to soak up every minute of my time that’s left. I’ll definitely be eating more arepas and drinking more juices. I literally started a dictionary of new fruits I have tried since arriving here, it’s incredible! With all that’s going on in the world right now, I’m SO grateful for this adventure. Meeting people from a different culture, trying new foods, learning a bit of history. being curious about customs . . . it’s an important part of the knowing that we all share this planet, and we should love one another . . . because life is challenging enough. Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti ♥️ m P.S. If all goes according to plan, my first class offering in Michigan will be Saturday @ the Saugatuck Yacht Club. 9:00 - 10:00 A I hope you can join me! 💗

And BIG love for Colombia Hi from Bogota! At that very first teacher training, I met Mariana. I understood almost immediately I had gained a lifelong friend. Since then, Mariana and I have travelled far and wide to continue our teacher training together. Want to learn more about what is involved in yoga teacher training? Perhaps a future newsletter will offer an inside peak into the commitment that’s made when becoming a yoga teacher! So far, our journey has been powerful and transformative. It’s incredible to have a deep friendship throughout the process. We support each other, grieve together, celebrate our growth, and inspire one another. Oh, and sometimes we have disagreements . . . but mostly we LAUGH! Mariana has been lovingly, insistently inviting me to Colombia since day one. (Her lawyering skills are superb . . . she is super persuasive! 😉) I am THRILLED that I have finally made good on my promise to visit. If you’ve never been, Bogota has more people than the entire state of Michigan. And, things here are elevated. I’m hanging out at about 8700 feet right now. ⛰️ Additional stops on this initial Colombian tour will include:
I’ll be writing and sharing more from Colombia next week. Right now, I can’t wait to dive back into the adventure of it all! Sending love and hugs, ♥️ m P.S. Happy New Moon + Solar Eclipse on Saturday! Carve out a moment to pause and plant those seeds for your pathway forward. P.P.S. My classes at Satya are continuing while I am away! No Yacht Club yoga this Saturday, Oct. 14.
“I can’t believe this. This is my dream. I can’t believe this. This is wonderful, awesome. I’m so happy. I’m happy, happy, happy, happy.” ~ Abdoulaye Conde, speaking to reporters while receiving his trophy Vibrant Life Lessons
Celebrating our Connectivity Hello beauties! If Hollywood wrote the script, we may not even believe it. We are over-the-top excited about Abdoulaye’s ArtPrize victory. Thank you!! Thanks to everyone who voted, sent love, bought tote bags and t-shirts, and shared in the thrill of his journey. The prize money? Lives-changing . . . not just life-changing. This will prize will generate positive impacts for so many people. Here, and in Abdoulaye’s home country of Guinea. I’m equally excited that this mural caught the attention, curiosity, and admiration of so many people! This vibrant piece combines Guinea’s national symbol (the elephant) and Abdoulaye’s favorite childhood memories (going to the beach). Together, the message is clear . . . we are all connected; we can share our wisdom and live in harmony. And while we’re at it, why not be JOYFUL?! 🥰 Most affirming is how people connected with Abdoulaye and Anisa throughout this process. Abdoulaye worked 12 hour days for 25 days on this piece. Then, throughout the competition, he was at his mural playing music, grinning ear to ear, wrapping people up in hugs, sharing his beautiful, authentic self. Anisa was at his side. Designing, ordering, and selling merchandise. Answering so many questions. Showing up for it all. In fact, when Abdoulaye’s name was announced, he said, “We won! We won!” 💗 Thanks for being part of the excitement, ♥️ m P.S. If you’d like one of the new Through it All t-shirts, featuring the elephants, you can find them here. |
