"Self-empathy is at the core of effective communication. When we are at ease with ourselves and know exactly what we need from the other person right now, in the present moment, we are much more able to use our language in a skillful way." ~ Judith Hanson Lasater. Teaching Yoga with Intention Dear friends, We had several days of miserable weather here (rain, high winds, cold temperatures), but we have also had some of the most gorgeous days and nights! Truly, the sky has been putting on a show! The sunrises, the sunsets, the clear night sky, the giant double rainbow? Amazing! This past Monday was Diwali. If you're not familiar, Diwali is known as the Festival of Lights, and it embodies light overcoming the darkness. It is a beautiful Holi-day celebrating the illumination of consciousness and elevation of the human spirit. This year, I chose to honor Diwali with candlelight and fire. I felt full of hope and aspiration for my growth and for the elevation of all humanity. Diwali, combined with Tuesday's new moon and partial solar eclipse? Wow! And, being on the sailboat recently with dear friend, Theresa, and our intrepid new sailor, Javi? Doesn't get much better than that for me. ⛵️🐶♥️ To learn more about my favorite form of deep self-care, click here! I hope you'll join me on the journey.

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that." ~ Martin Luther King, Jr. Namasté, dear friends: Mike and I were in DC last weekend. We went to celebrate the big, beautiful life of Uncle Jay. The funeral service at Arlington National Cemetery was memorable. The ritual. The solemnity. The grief and the love from all the family and friends present? I'm grateful we were there for it all. We also walked and biked for miles, ate so much good food, re-connected with a college roommate of MIke's, went to museums and visited monuments. It was my first time at the M.L.K. Jr. Memorial; I'm so glad we spent time there. Each quotation engraved into those walls embodies lifetimes of learning. Then, when I found the LOVE garage art near our favorite coffee joint? 🌈 ♥️ Yep, I was definitely finding and feeling the love throughout DC. "My first 40-day practice with Michelle turned into 120 days. That's how good it was. Another way to say it is . . . that's how powerful and impactful the deepening results were." ~ Krista Reuter Cheers, everyone! 🥂 It's our one-year anniversary, and my how we've grown! 🙌🏽 A year ago I took a leap. I sent out my first email newsletter to a small group of subscribers. I was a bit nervous, and it all seemed rather daunting. With that first newsletter, I made myself a promise. I committed to sending out an email once a week, every week, no matter what. (Truth be told? I had no idea if I would even make it a month?! 😅) These past 52 weeks have been joyful and enlightening. I have written you from home, from Beaver Island, from Joshua Tree Retreat Center in California, from Tuscany, from Germany, and beyond. (Who could have predicted that I would be writing you today with a puppy in my lap? 🐶♥️) If you received that very first email . . . thank you! I LOVE that some of you have been with me from the beginning. 🙏🏽 To all of my newer friends, thank YOU for joining me on the path. Because of you? We have grown stronger, together! 🦋 Want to re-connect with any of the posts from this year? You can find all of them here! 🦋 Real talk? This newsletter has been a gift. It has enriched my conversations and deepened my connections with you. And, I believe the committed practice of shaping my thoughts in this way has helped me grow. Both as a person and as an instructor. 🥰 Click here to read more and get in on the initial launch of Elevate Daily Life!
"Being a yoga teacher is NOT a job description. It's a heart space." ~ Susanna Barkataki, Ignite Institute Wow! I'm glad that our little puppy, Javi, sparked so much joy! I appreciate the outpouring of affection for our love-bundle. I'm thrilled some of you have already gotten to meet him, and I promise to keep all of you updated via photos in future newsletters. Who knew that something weighing less than 4 pounds would rock our entire world, in the BEST of ways? 🐶♥️ Having a 3-month old, high-energy puppy, certainly has changed the rhythm of my days. For Javi, I shift my schedule, expend more energy, and lose some sleep. No matter the circumstances, when the routines of our daily lives change, it's tempting to let go of our self-care commitments:
I'm curious. When the pace of your life, the demands of your day, shift:
